So What is the Cost?

So, what does it really cost to build an airplane,  it depends on what you count as build time.  If you just count the things directly related to the project, (parts) then I would still be about on budget.  However, what if you count tools?  How about postage for mail order parts, time and gas for the multiple trips to the store?  I have counted these because I wouldn't have spent the time/money if it were not for this project.  I even counted my trip in a C-140 (over the middle of the Rockies) to Oshkosh.  Why?  because I wouldn't have done it were I not building a plane.  I might even include the costs associated with getting my tail dragger card.  While this may not seem fair, its the truth.  You will make such added expenditures if you start a homebuilt project too.  But this also illustrates a great point.  The building process is fun (except for prepping and priming!), it includes research and learning and flying that you would never have done and adds to your life and subtracts from your bank account in ways that you just never imagine.  If you have spent the time to read this, you are probably hooked too :-)
